Gold Star Student & Teacher Awards / Scholarships

The Miramar Pembroke Pines Regional Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 17th Annual GoldStar Awards Breakfast on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 7:00AM at Club 19at the Pembroke Lakes Country Club, 10500 Taft Street in Pembroke Pines.  This is an opportunity for us to honor the "Teachers of the Year" from our area schools as well as award scholarships to deserving graduates.

The Scholarship Committee  Members of the Scholarship Fund, a 501(c)(3) entity, of the chamber, have worked all year long on this great event.  This special event will be held in conjuntion with the Chamber's monthly Membership Breakfast.

The Miramar Pembroke Pines Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Committee raises funds specifically to honor and award scholarships to applicants who exhibit outstanding contributions to their community and school, and demonstrate academic excellence. Award amounts range from $500 to $3,000.

Eligibility

Applicant must be a high school senior residing in the cities of Miramar or Pembroke Pines or have a parent who is a member of the Miramar-Pembroke Pines Regional Chamber of Commerce.  

Criteria

The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of eligibility, participation in school and involvement in community activities, as well as scholastic achievement.

Process/Timeline

Semi-finalists selected after the first qualifying round will be contacted by phone to arrange for a personal interview with members of the education committee.  Interviews will be held on March 30 2017 from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Scholarship recipients and their parents and will be invited to attend the Chamber Breakfast on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. for the announcement of the awards.

The completed applicantion must be submitted or postmarked NO LATER than March 17, 2017.

The Miramar Pembroke Pines Regional Chamber of Commerce has a rich history of service to our communities. The Chamber is an organization of business members and leaders who work to promote the economic and social well-being of residents in the Miramar and Pembroke Pines region. The Scholarship Committee raises funds specifically for the support and enhancement of quality education in the cities of Miramar and Pembroke Pines.

Eligibility and Available Awards

All elementary and middle school teachers in Miramar or Pembroke Pines schools are eligible to apply. Awards are competitive. The number of Classroom Projects awarded this year will depend on the number of applicants and the amount of funds raised by the Scholarship Committee. The maximum monetary award for each Classroom Project is $250.00. Classroom Project recipients will be invited to attend the Chamber STAR Breakfast on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 7:00am for the announcement of the awards.

Criteria

The Scholarship Committee awards Classroom Projects are based on originality, relevance, and need. The funds received for the Classroom Project will be applied to the upcoming academic year (2017-2018). The Chamber will send funds to the school listed on the application in July 2016 intended for the teacher who received the Classroom Project Award. At the completion of the project, but no later than March 1, 2017, the awardee must submit a one page typed report attached to an e-mail about the efficacy of the project. If the Chamber does not receive the report by March 1, 2018, then the school will be ineligible to receive the Classroom Project Award in the future.
